The facts at a glance

The companion volume to the Baukultur Report 2014/15

The Foundation presents the Baukultur Report 2014/15 on the occasion of the Convention of Baukultur on 16 and 17 November 2014. For the Baukultur Report, various experts and the general public were surveyed on the subject of Baukultur. The report consequently presents content-rich numerical data and thus ensures a comprehensive approach. On behalf of the Federal Foundation of Baukultur, the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu) conducted a nationwide survey of municipalities, while a picture of the opinions of the general public regarding Baukultur, housing, planning, and participation was formed with the aid of the forsa Institute for Political and Social Research. In advance of this work, focus groups discussed building and planning with selected stakeholders in order to develop relevant questions. In four separate rounds, they dealt with the situation and the significance of Baukultur in everyday business life, along with the topics “Housing and Mixed Neighbourhoods”, “Public Space and Infrastructure”, and “Planning Culture and Process Quality”.

In regard to the qualities of our built environment, the process of creating the Baukultur Report reflected exciting, contradictory, and often unanimous assessments and opinions. They are all part of the Baukultur Report 2014/15. This companion volume additionally provides a deeper insight into the revealing results that were compiled during the surveys and discussions.

Complementing the Baukultur Report 2014/15 is the Baukultur Barometer – a companion volume to the Baukultur Report 2014/15 which offers a detailed look at these two surveys and at statements by the experts in the focus groups.
