2012 Convention of Baukultur

Whether streets, bridges, or railway stations: When planning infrastructure projects, Baukultur is often neglected. The 2012 Convention of Baukultur discusses the design, functionality, and sustainability of our urban infrastructure on 17 and 18 June 2012 in Hamburg, where the Federal Foundation of Baukultur offers a forum for the disciplines of planning and construction as well as for politics and administration.

In addition, from 15 to 17 June, artistic interventions take place in twelve cities under the banner of AKTION_BAUKULTUR (Baukultur Action), thereby drawing attention in a playful way to the challenges faced in our public traffic areas. Simultaneously, the baukulTOUR takes place on 17 June. It is a dialogical walk designed to enables citizens and Convention appointees alike to experience firsthand the traffic areas around Hamburg’s Central Station.

On 18 June, distinguished federal politicians and prominent professionals at the plenary session draw a link between project-specific and societal challenges. The Convention ends with the election of the Foundation’s official bodies – and with the so-called Hamburger Appell (Hamburg Appeal) for more Baukultur in the urban transport infrastructure, which will be adopted collectively.
