2010 Convention of Baukultur

On 16 April 2010, the Federal Foundation of Baukultur gathers around 350 selected building experts representing disparate disciplines from home and abroad to the Convention of Baukultur at the Zeche Zollverein in Essen, to discuss the quality of “Baukultur des Öffentlichen” (Baukultur of the Public Realm).

In order for it to be capable of working as well as publicly effective, the Baukultur Foundation had arranged for the 2010 Convention to last two days, with 16 April reserved for internal debate by the appointees and special guests.

On 17 April, the Baukultur Foundation continues the Convention debate on the three substantive areas of focus, education, open space, and transport in the region of the “Cultural Capital RUHR.2010” with interested members of the public. Together with representatives from politics, media, and culture, the Convention of Baukultur conducts walks through Bochum, Gelsenkirchen, and Essen. The Baukultur Foundation would thereby like to call upon the public to put three everyday places to the test: the Erich Kästner Comprehensive School in Bochum, the Ebertstrasse pedestrian zone in Gelsenkirchen, and the Essen Central Station transport hub. The projects serve to illustrate the current condition of public spaces, which is attributable to years of neglect, and to demonstrate the potentials harboured by urban redevelopment.
