Founded in 2007, the Federal Foundation of Baukultur is an independent institution. Its purpose is to promote Baukultur, given that the condition of our built environment contributes significantly to the quality of life in both cities and the countryside. Baukultur includes social, ecological and economic sustainability as well as emotional and aesthetic qualities. Baukultur is formed through a social process based on a broad understanding of qualitative values ​​and goals.

The Foundation’s mission is to make the built environment a shared concern and to promote public discussion on Baukultur through events, joint projects, and publications. The Foundation furthermore aims on expanding and strengthening existing national and international networks.
